FEC recently completed the full mechanical design, independent verification, drafting, and registration of the SABRE Veto Vessel.

The stainless steel vessel was designed for The University of Melbourne to facilitate the research into dark matter at the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory (SUPL). The laboratory is located in an unused gold mine in Western Victoria, approximately 1km underground. Vessel fabrication was completed in October 2019 and it is currently installed at Swinburne University of Technology for preliminary testing while SUPL is being constructed.

FEC were required to provide a unique custom flange design to facilitate the process, as well as provide detailed lifting diagrams for installation in the underground facility. FEC were able to communicate directly with the end user to ensure the functional requirements of the vessel were met, which resulted in a satisfactory design delivered ahead of schedule.

This vessel was recently featured in the Australian Stainless Magazine Issue 68 for the Australian Stainless Steel Development Association (ASSDA) per the link below.
